Car air conditioner plays a very important role for our comfortable journey whether it is a short or long trip. You can’t even imagine, if your car AC not blowing cold air midway in a scorching sunny day.
The summer season falls after the spring and before the autumn. In addition summer days are longer than nights. We have to carry out travelling for different purposes. It may be for our buisness, employment or vacation trips.
You can prevent from many complications if you regualry perform necessary maintenance. Many issues in air conditioning system have simple solutions. These problems only need your day to day attention.
Common Problems with Car Air Conditioner
Your car AC may have several or one of the below given problems. We are going to discuss one by one, with their solution.
Car AC Not Blowing Cold Air
You are driving your car, you turn on AC but only fan / blower start working with hot air. What may be the possible reasons?
1. Blocked Condenser
The main duty of condensor is to cool the refrigerant gass or cooling agent. Due to blocking it can’t circulate refrigerant, so it is unable to cool rightly. It results in blow of hot air through AC vents.
Quick Fix
- Switch off and wait until the engine cool down.
- Clean or change the air filter.
- Clean AC vents with some detergent.
- Vaccum and fetch debris.
- Sprinkle some cleaner.
- Turn on AC to move round the cleaner.
2. Low Refrigerant Level
Refrigerant transform from liquid to gas in a cycle in cooling process. It passes through compressor, to convert into liquid from gass. Then it enters into condensor. Here its temperature is high but natural air circulation around condensor drops its temperature. Then it enters into cooling phase.
You may take clear idea regarding importance of refrigerant. If it has low levels, it won’t allow compressor to work properly nor it will expand further in cooling process. Compressor will overheat and may even burn.
How to Fix
- First inspect the condensor and compressor. If there is any leakage fix it properly.
- Recharge the additional coolant into system. Make sure gauge readings follow the same readings as recommended by the manufacturer.
3. Defective Cooling Fan
A defective cooling fan will not pull out extra heat from engine. This will directly effect functioning of AC. In results AC vents blow hot air. There may be various factors by which cooling fan damages.
Quick Fix
- Fuse may burnt, replace with identical ratings.
- Examine fan condition overall.
- Check out fan motor.
- Coolant temperature sensor can stop fan, check it.
- Relay for cooling fan operation may faulty.
- There might be a problem in the wiring.

4. Electrical Issues: Car AC Not Blowing Cold Air
It may be due to problem in control panel or car wiring. Overall electric or specific AC sensors may be defective. In result car ac may not blow cold air or intermittent cooling.
Ways to Fix Electrical Issues
- If the switch leading to compressor is damaged, replace it.
- Sometimes fuse may be defective, change it with same ratings.
- If control system is faulty, diagnose it properly.
5. Defective Thermostate
Thermostate may show you correct readings but there can be problematic sensors. It result in cooling cut off. You have to change sensors in this situation or align properly.
6. Clogged Cabin Air Filter
A clogged cabin air filter cuts down the air flow. It leads to frozen evaporator. Refrigerant movement stops in the vents therefore you feel car AC not blowing cold air.
Quick Fix
- Replace cabin air filter or clean it properly if it has some life.
7. Faulty Radiator
If radiator of your car is not working properly it overheat the engine. Overheating cut off the AC compressor therefore cabin get warm air.
- If radiator is blocked you have to service it for proper circulation of coolant.
- Some times radiator leaks and coolant drain out, fix its leakage.
- Radiator fins all the time face high pressue of air. These get clogged over the time due to debris, flies or mosquitos etc. Regular cleaning is mandatory.
- Clean radiator is not only necessary for AC performance it also increases overall performance and life of engine.
